Weekly Loadout #1: Stuffies and a Shawl

I decided that it would be interesting to show you a picture of what I intend to work on for this week (though we all know that plans are always susceptible to change). Normally I hope to have this out at the beginning of the week, but with my summer exams finally over I’ll allow myself this leeway. This week is a lot of stuffed toy knitting, since I have a 6 years old’s birthday coming up this Friday along with an older cousin’s birthday in early September (whose present I have to finish soon if I want to ship it out to Seattle to him!). But let’s start from the top?

I am participating in #KALMerlot, a knit-a-long for the Merlot Shawl hosted by Anaeli of Under the Jeweled Tree (definitely check out her blog, she shows you wonderful posts of her spinning adventures like her first time dyeing fibre, and though it begins on the 15th I already have my yarn colours chosen out. The top skein is Fleece Artist  BFL Socks (80% BFL & 20% Nylon) in the Ireland colourway, and it will be paired with a neutral gray, that I picked up at my LYS, called Cailloux from Julie Asselin in the Piccolo base (80% Merino & 20% Nyon).

Spinning wise I have that Olivia colourway from SpunRightRound that I am still working on, this is the last third of my planned 3-ply and is being spun on my Capar Medium Turkish spindle. I finished plying a bright blue Polwarth sample on my Bosworth Midi, and plan on working on the plying ball next to it as soon as I wind off the Polwarth. On the bobbin (did you notice it is a different shape from my usual Roadbug bobbin? If you’ve been following me on Instagram then you know I acquired a wheel two weeks ago, but I’ll post about that later), I have the same FatCatKnits batt that is on the plying ball except I plan on spinning it much thicker (I am aiming to get more of a worsted / aran weight).

To the right of the bobbin are my planned colourways to knit up a squid for my older cousin. I am keeping it small by doing it in fingering weight because a) I have a lot of fingering weight leftovers versus worsted weight and b) I need to mail it so I don’t want it to get destroyed (the post does that, it eats your mail). Below it, is a bright Pepto Bismol coloured stuffie in progress (knit with acrylic leftovers). It will soon become a critter once I finish the body and sew everything together, but for now try not to be intimidated by the pink.

And that is what I should be working on for the week!
